Huron Shores Hospice – Wind Phone

This year Bruce Telecom donated the old pay phone to Huron Shores Hospice for their installation of their Wind Phone Project located at Geddes Park.

The Wind Phone was a joint project with the Tiverton and District Lions Club, which the Wind Phone was installed in their gazebo. The purpose of the Wind Phone is to give people a space for grieving individuals to connect with their departed loves ones, allowing them to express their thoughts, regrets and love, with their voice carried by the wind.

In 2010, Itaru Sasaki, a Japanese garden designer, set up the first Wind Phone in his Garden as a personal means to grieve the loss of his cousin. He placed an unconnected rotary phone inside an old-fashioned pay phone booth and shared, “Because my thoughts could not be related over a regular phone line, I wanted them to be carried on the wind.” When the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami struck in 2011, causing immense loss and devastation, Sasaki opened up the phone to the public, providing a space for friends and relatives of the victims to find solace in their grief.

This project is available to the community to use for living with their grief and letting the wind carry their voice to their loved ones.

Women’s House Serving Grey and Bruce

Fill a Purse Campaign

The Kincardine Women’s House Serving Grey and Bruce is an organization which provides women in need a safe, secure and supportive environment free from abuse and sexual violence. They offer counselling for all in-house clients and 24-hour support lines. During their stay at the Women’s House, women and children have the opportunity to access counselling, community agencies, legal aid, housing, social assistance, medical help and other services as requires.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what services this local community organization offers to women in need, which is why Bruce Telecom decided to show our support for them. This year, we decided to take part of the ‘Fill a Purse’ campaign. This campaign works towards bringing comfort, hope and dignity to women with the gift of purses filled with personal necessities. Luckily here at Bruce Telecom we have amazing staff that is always willing to jump in and help when we need it. We received 18 purses donated by our staff members and we were able to fill them full of shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant and feminine hygiene products. We donated them to the Kincardine Women’s House serving Grey and Bruce and it was amazing to see the smiles on their faces.

You can check out their website for any information.

Shoreline Classics MyFM Holiday Poinsettia Campaign

Shoreline Classics MyFM reached out to us this year to be a partner in their Project Poinsettias Campaign which aimed to bring a little festive cheer to those who need it most.

This year Shoreline Classics MyFM and Bruce Telecom worked together to deliver 50 poinsettia plants to various locations in our local communities. These deliveries included retirement homes, nursing homes, local hospitals and hospices. It was amazing to see the smiles and excitement on peoples faces when they received their poinsettias.

Bruce Telecom was grateful to be asked to take part in this campaign. During the holidays it can be a tough time for our healthcare professionals and elderly residents so it was important for us to take part in something that brought some holiday cheer.

Marine Heritage Festival

Every year, Bruce Telecom is a proud Platinum sponsor of the Southampton Marine Heritage Festival. This three-day annual festival celebrates the rich Marine History in Southampton on the shores of Lake Huron. The event includes Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre tours, a Bike Rally, a Ghost Walk, a Pancake breakfast, Children’s Gold Hunt, and the highlight Cardboard Boat races. There is also a fire fighters fish fry, children’s entertainment, and live music all weekend long! This free family festival is hosted by volunteers from the Marine Heritage Society and Propeller Club of Saugeen Shores.

Bruce Telecom takes part in the Gold Dig contest for the kids. The beach is lined with gold nuggets and they must find as much gold as they can in their time limit. After their competition, each kid gets their gold nuggets weighed, which then based on the weight of gold collected they get an awesome prize along with a certificate signed by Captain Wayne Sparrow!

We are always so excited to join and support this event yearly to support the Southampton community and have some fun while we do it!

Paisley Splash Pad

This year we sponsored another local event that brought a lot of fun and joy to the community of Paisley Ontario. We were a bronze sponsor for the new Paisley Splash Pad that had their grand opening ceremony on June 23, 2023. We were graciously invited to join the celebrations where there was a lot of community presence, which only showed the need for this amazing project.

Through the hard work of the Paisley Splash Pad committee, sponsors, volunteers and construction crews, they were able to turn this dream into a reality. During the grand opening ceremonies, we were shown the completed splash pad in action and all the kids in attendance were over the moon with excitement. The Paisley Central School Choir even showed up and sang a bunch of songs to commemorate the grand opening.

The Paisley Splash pad is located on the corner of James and Inkerman Street and is open for use during the summer months.
