The Hello Summer Expo, hosted by the Port Elgin Rotary Club featured home inspiration booths, live music, jumpy castles, family fun for all ages, craft beer and great BBQ food! The event helps the local community in many ways. All the proceeds from the event go to local mental health and physical wellness like Huron Shores Hospice, Wes for Youth Online and Women’s House.
The event was jam packed with activities over the course of the two day event. During the afternoon on Saturday they featured live local entertainment, vendor booths and family fin activities like bouncy castles and face painting. They also featured Sofa Kings and 21 Gun Salute on Saturdays night and Shania Twin and The Recklaws on Sunday night.
Bruce Telecom was thrilled to be a sponsor for this event in Port Elgin. Not only did if give back to our local communities but they also made the event a smashing success for everyone.
Every summer the Municipality of Kincardine hosts the Market in the Park, a local event that gives small businesses an opportunity to showcase their products and services to the local community. The market offers up a variety of products, including fresh local produce, homemade wood products/crafts, sunglasses, clothing, fresh baking, children’s products, and more… always something for everyone!
This year, as the Downtown Dig was happening, the market had to be moved to a different location to make it more convenient for local community to access. This years market in the park was located at Connaught Park and the Tiverton & District Sports Centre.
Bruce Telecom sponsored the Wi-Fi at both locations during the Market so the vendors and the local community could have access to it if need be.
Each spring in Saugeen Shores, those 55+ have an opportunity to take part in the Senior Games put on by the Town of Saugeen Shores. This year was the first year that the games returned to the community after the pandemic. Seniors have a chance to participate for a chance to represent Saugeen Shores at the district Senior Games. There are over 15 activities in the competition and events are held at different venues throughout the municipality.
The 2023 games that took place over six weeks, consisted of 10 competitions that included Mahjong, Cribbage, Contract Bridge, 8-Ball, Duplicate Bridge, Euchre, Snooker, Solo, Crokinole and Big Euchre and ended with a celebratory lunch where the participants could come together, socialize, and be recognized.

The Grey Bruce Children’s Water Festival is a local even hosted to students to educate them on the importance of water and a healthy environment through many activities grouped into three major themes.
Water Conversation and Attitude
The main points of this theme is to explore how there is a limited supply of fresh water on the planet and how we can use it wisely to save money and energy as well as educating students on how we can both protect and pollute water supplies.
Water Protection
The main points of this theme is to explain how hard it is to clean water once it has been polluted and how clean water doesn’t always mean clean water. It also touches on how all living things depend on natural habitats and how protecting them can protect the water.
Water Science and Technology
This theme discusses how water occurs naturally as a solid, liquid, and gas and that is is found everywhere, in the air, underground, and on the ground. It also touches on how we use science and innovation to clean and move water.
This year, Bruce Telecom was a ‘Friend’ sponsor of the festival. Our sponsorship helps the festival educate students on how to develop a new-found respect for water and stewardship of the environment, begins the process of behavioral change towards water and the environment, and help initiate change within homes, schools and the community.

Big Brothers Bigs Sisters of Grey Bruce has been serving youth and families throughout the community for over 60 years. As a mentorship organization, they believe in investing in the power and potential of all youth and our mentorship programs do just that. Dancing With The Stars is Kincardine’s premiere black tie gala fundraiser that raises funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Bruce North Huron. Just like the TV show, Dancing With The Stars pair’s dancers with community ‘celebrities’ who have little or no dance experience.

The first Lake Huron Fish club fish enhancement project was the construction of a chinook salmon production facility in the Town of Port Elgin. To fund the construction and operation of this project, they created The Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby was born and in 1983 and is now a 16-day event.
The Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Lake Huron Fishing club to fund a variety of community projects.
This year the annual derby wrapped up for 2023 with 1530 fish weighed in and $15,000 to $20,000 raised to go towards the Lake Huron Fishing Club’s stocking program.

Hawks Nest is a local competition, much like Dragon’s Den, for local entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas to the Hawks, who are local angel investors, which resulted in over $36,000 in investments and loans.
Each Hawk plays a crucial role in the success of each year’s event. These Hawks are local entrepreneurs and business owners themselves who not only provide financial support to the contestants, but their mentorship, expertise and open up their network of contacts.
This year, this event had 6 Hawks who all committed to invest $5000 in the entrepreneurs during the event totally a minimum of $30,000.

The Kincardine Home and Garden Expo is an excellent local event that showcases many local businesses and the products and services that they offer. This two-day event, hosted by the Kincardine Chamber of Commerce, was jammed packed with over 50 different vendors that featured a variety of products that are mean to enhance your home, lifestyle, finance and more.
This year, Bruce Telecom was the media sponsor for this event, which included providing Wi-Fi services for the two-day event at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.
Not only did this even feature different vendors, they also had free live entertainment on Friday and Saturday, fashion shows, free facepainting and even a free family swim. Another amazing thing that came from this event was that they supported the local food bank by accepting non-perishable food items in lieu of an admission fee.

This year we celebrated the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women in our community on International Women’s Day, by supporting the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce as an Emerald Sponsor. This event was hosted at the Quen’s Bar and Grill in Port Elgin, and was a breakfast day brunch.
This year’s theme was “Health and Wellness”, which included various speakers leading the way in the Saugeen Shores industry.
Speakers included Hannah Greig, a registered Holistic Nutritionist and a member of the Canadian Association of Natural Nutrition Practioners. She owns her own Nutrition Consulting business called Naturally Well by Hannah.
Another speaker that was in attendance was Kinga Jakob, a life coach for high achieving people who want to change their relationships with alcohol, drugs, and with other people. Her business is called Recovering from Everything, and works one-on-one but has known to host local and online workshops.
The final speaker at the breakfast was Tara Tourloukis, a registered nurse, psychotherapist, and has been a nurse in mental health for 20 years. She has a private practice in Kincardine called The Wellness Nurse and sees individuals in person and virtually across the province.

Community Living Kincardine & District hosted their 15h annual CLKD Charity Golf Classic at the Ainsdale Golf Course in Kincardine to support of over 150 individuals in our community living with a developmental disability.
Community Living Kincardine & District is a charitable organization striving to create a welcoming and accessible community that embraces people of all disabilities. Handbags for Hospice is an annual gala that brings together 170 women for a fabulous evening of handbags, food, drink, laughs, fun and fundraising to celebrate the Power of the Purse. This year’s seventh annual sold-out fundraiser consisted with auctions of over 100 designer handbags, luxury experiences and getaways, as well as a wine wall, games and a premium prize raffle. This year, the event raised $201,000. The proceeds from the gala will go to the community hospice and programming to ensure that quality end-of-life care and grief recovery that are available for your friends, family and neighbors, at no cost. They also go towards sustaining their two-bedroom residential suites.
